U.S.S. Valhalla (NCC-18000) Transporter Room
« on: April 23, 2018, 06:55:37 PM »

Description

The most commonly used type of transporter was the personnel transporter.

Personnel transporter rooms usually consisted of a transporter console, a transporter platform with an overhead molecular imaging scanner, primary energizing coils, and phase transition coils.

A pattern buffer with a bio-filter was typically located on the deck below the transporter room. The outer hull of a starship incorporated a number of emitter pads for the transporter beam.

Personnel transporters worked on the quantum level to enable secure transport of lifeforms. Bio-filters built into the transporter systems prevented dangerous microorganisms from boarding the ship.

Transporter platforms had a variable number of pads, arranged in various layouts (by model and by manufacturing race):

The six transporters used aboard the Valhalla has the familiar six individual pads, with an over-sized pad (in the center of the platform) that can handle small cargo / equipment.

With her 'team' otherwise engaged, Roxanne was on her ownsome for this mission. She didn't mind really, saved having to give orders and or shout at people; something that often irritated her now and then. Once she was in position the first thing she did was to double check her weapons, then she went through her standard defense routines since no one else was around for the moment; it did look a little bizarre to others of course.

Satisfied all was as it should be, she called back to the CO. "Captain Harvath, its Major Dane. I have reached the transporter rooms, currently I am solo as my team are otherwise engaged. Who else can I expect to be here?"

Paddy didn't have too much to carry with him, he made sure Rebecca wasn't overly burdened either for that matter with the both of them hauling only that which they would need for such a mission. Securing possible wounded emanating from a distress signal was always a situation of guess work as to what you needed. In that Aldus on every occasion in the past made sure neither he or any of his team carried with them more than the essentials, time hadn't changed his view on that.

Coming around the corner his eyes fell on Major Dane before anything else, she was alone. He turned to Rebecca before proceeding. "Strange one that lass, though I more than anyone else am fully appraised of her background, she still has the tendency to put you into a state of caution. I did a few tests on her when we were at 'Unity'; she has almost twice the physical strength of us mere mortals, she's faster than anyone I've ever known and then some. Yet she gives the impression of such calm, its as if she has no faculty to comprehend what she is capable of. That makes her dangerous, I hope Scot is prepared for that." Pausing, he tapped his coms again. "Scot, I'm approaching the transporter now."

First Lieutenant Storr Garlake entered the transporter room followed closely by a marine fire team consisting of three other Marines. He nodded towards Aldus and Rebecca and approached Roxanne. When he was a couple of steps from her he pulled up and stood at attention, the other three Marines did the same just behind him.

"Sir, Lieutenant Garlake reporting for landing party duty." he said formally. Then after a brief pause he continued, "Staff Sergeant de la Rosa, Corporal Jameson and Corporal Hendricks will make up the tactical escort. They are all have combat experience fighting against the Dominion. Just in case we encounter any less than friendly Jem'hedar soldiers, which is most of them." Then, remembering that Roxanne was new to the Federation and this portion of the quadrant he looked at the floor somewhat embarrased and then back to his commanding officer. "When the Federation first discovered the wormhole that connects the Alpha and Gamma Quadrants it came into contact with the Dominion, and empire led by a race of shape shifters. The Jem'hedar are their soldiers. They are literally bred for combat, it is all they know. They are totally fearless and very aggressive, in some instances suicidal. They are completely loyal to their Changeling masters, whom they have been bred to view as Gods. This loyalty is further guaranteed through the fact that they are addicted to an enzyme which they must have in order to survive. This enzyme is given out by a representative of the Changelings known as a Vorta. If the Vorta in charge of this station has been killed, and if they are unable to get their needed dose of the enzyme, any Jem'hedar we meet will likely attack on sight." When he was finished Storr stood motionless in front of Roxanne.

"At ease Lieutenant and thank you for the support I know we will need." Roxy acknowledged the other Marines with a polite nod.

She was though immensely intrigued by the news or rather intel concerning the Jem'hedar soldiers, to her their apparent method of operation was hardly different to the rigid training instilled into her own regiment; something she could appreciate and of course something she and her team could capitalize on. "That is a flaw we can use, tactically when a soldier is driven by things he or she has no control over the mistakes they will make will be prone to make predetermined risks that are 'by the book' so to speak. Soldiers are the same in every way, those things that make us the same are the very things that can endanger each of us, we act robotically without that core of leadership we can counter their every move." Over confident, no. Roxanne was the physical incarnation of what any soldier might expect to find in an opponent on the battlefied.
