U.S.S. Valhalla (NCC-18000) Main Bridge
« on: October 31, 2016, 08:50:28 AM »

Summary

The bridge is the command center fo the U.S.S. Valhalla and is where the Commanding Officer (CO) controls all ship operations and gathers mission sensitive information by utilizing the bridge officers who man the various Bridge Console Stations.

Additional Information

Location   - Deck 1

Description:

Each station is manned by a primary duty officer each shift with a secondary officer present who can take over the station in case of emergencies or assist/provide breaks for the primary officer.

Command Area

The Captains Chair (1) is located in the center of the bridge and has a clear view of most other stations. Information displays built into the arm of the Captain's chair provide critical real-time information on the ship's systems. The Executive Officer's chair (2) is located to the right of the Captain's Chair and functions in an identical fashion. Between the Captain and Executive Officer is a fold-out console built into the structure that provides a more detailed readout on ships systems and may also be used by the Captain or the Executive Officer to take over operational command of the ship and its systems should the need arise. The Mission Advisor/VIP seat (3) is located to the left of the Captain and is used by Mission Specialists who may be advising the Captain on aspects of a mission or by VIPs who are observing Bridge operations. This seat does not have the ability to control r access ships functions.

Marine Combat Information Center (CIC) (9)

The CIC is accessed through a door aft of the Command Area. This room is used to coordinate and monitor Marine units during mission operations. It is generally restricted to the Marine command staff, CIC personnel and the ship's Captain, Executive Officer, Strategic Operations Officer, Chief Tactical Officer, and Chief Intelligence Officer.

Flight Ops and Engineering Well

Directly to the front of, and slightly below the Command area, is the joint Flight Operations (13) and Engineering (14) console. From the Flight Operations station, the ship's Flight Control Officer (FCO) can handle all operations necessary to pilot the ship. The Engineering console allows the ships Chief Engineer (or other engineers) to access and control all aspects of the ships engines from the bridge. The Flight Operations Console and Engineering Console are located side by side since the two work very closely together.

Information systems

The Main View Screen (7) and the ships Holo-Communication system (4) are located directly in front of the Flight Ops and Engineering Well and raised slightly in order to provide an unobstructed view from the Command Area.

The ships Master Systems Display (8) is centered on the back wall of the bridge. This dedicated display provides any officer with a real-time, interactive status update of any system on the ship. It's attached console allows certain routine functions to be quickly handled using the MSD.

Sciences and Medical

The Science and Medical Suite (11) is located on the starboard side of the bridge and consists of three seated stations located along the wall, Science 2 (center) and two multi-use stations. The main Science Station (Science 1) is located at the front of the suite facing the Main View Screen. The two multi-use stations which flank Science 2 can be configured to fulfill a wide range of scientific needs.

The Science 2 Station is usually manned by the Assistant Science Officer or the second highest ranking Science Officer on the Bridge. It is a fully programmable, multi-mission console.

Science 1, which is the primary science console is manned by the Chief Science Officer or the highest ranking Science Officer present on the Bridge and has priority access to flight control, ops, ships computer, sensors, tactical, science, navigational, and communications systems.

Science 1 & 2 can work in tandem, however security links and all other non-science related data is withheld from Science II.

Operations Suite

The Operations Suite or Ops (10) is dedicated to controlling all of the starship's sensor and computer equipment. This console ultimately ties in all shipboard systems, enabling the Operations Officer (OPS) to coordinate mission pertinent scientific data that could not have been accessed by the other bridge consoles. It is located on the port side of the bridge and consists of three seated stations located along the wall, Ops 2 (center) and two multi-use stations. The Main Operations station "Ops" or Ops 1 is located at the front of the Suite facing the Main View Screen.

The two multi-use stations which flank Ops 2 can be configured to fulfill a wide range of mission-specific needs.

The Ops 2 Station is usually manned by the Assistant Operations Officer or the second highest ranking Operations Officer on the Bridge. It is a fully programmable, multi-mission console.

Ops 1, which is the primary operations console is manned by the Chief Operations Officer or the highest ranking Operations Officer present on the Bridge. Ops 1 has priority access to flight control, computer, sensor, tactical, science, navigational, environmental, life support, damage control, transporter and communications systems.

Operations 1 & 2 can work in tandem. Due to the vast amount of information and control over ships systems, access to Ops 1 and 2 is restricted to Beta-Two security clearance or higher.

Tactical Station

The Tactical Station (15) is located directly behind the Captains Chair and faces forward. From this station, the ship's Chief Tactical Officer, or highest ranking Tactical Officer on the bridge, can monitor and control the ship's offensive and defensive arsenal.

This station also has access to the ships sensors, sensor probes, message buoys, tractor beams, ship's communication and can be used to deploy Security teams to various areas of the ship in the event of an emergency or if the ship is boarded by intruders.

This station is generally manned by a single Tactical / Security Officer, but can be manned by two should the situation dictate. Due to the sensitive nature of the systems controlled by this station a Beta-Two security clearance or higher is required to access the controls.

Other Locations

(12) - Access to Briefing Room/Lounge and Escape Pods.

(6) - Turbolifts.

(5) - To Captains Ready Room.

Notes

The 2 escape pods located near the lounge/briefing room are reserved for the top four officers in the chain of command and bridge personnel because they are the last to leave the ship.

If the ship is abandoned, the top four officers in the chain of command will wait until everyone else is off the ship, potentially arm the auto-destruct, and only then leave in the two escape pods.

Owen stepped out of the turbo lift onto the Bridge and strode the few steps over to the tactical station. As he passed the door leading to the Marine Command Information Center he noted the Marine guard standing there. That was something he was definitely going to have to get used to. The young Ensign currently manning the station looked up as Owen approached, "Good afternoon Lieutenant Murtaugh."

Owen nodded at the other tactical officer, "Anything to report?"

"We have been running diagnostics on ships weapons and defensive systems for most of Alpha shift. We have a scheduled prisoner transfer from Unity to the Valhalla. Per the Captain's orders, the prisoner is to be housed on deck four, senior officers quarters. Arrangements have been made and we are just waiting for confirmation from the station at this point. That is all we have right now." the Ensign said.

Owen nodded, "Very well Ensign. You are relieved."

"Sir." the Ensign said. After a moment's hesitation, he continued,"I could stay sir and assist if you need."

Owen smiled slightly before saying, "No Ensign. I think I have it covered. You go and enjoy your off-duty time. I am sure there will be plenty of extra work for you once we get underway."

"Yes sir." the Ensign said and then turned and walked over to the turbo-lift. Owen watched as the young man left the bridge, remembering his days as a junior officer and of trying to impress the senior officers. Turning his attention back to the tactical station he read through the various reports from Gamma and Alpha shifts. Next, he looked over the arrangements which had been made for their special prisoner. They seemed to be more than adequate so he moved on to other things. "Computer. Bring up engagement between U.S.S. Hawk and unidentified Consortium vessel." the computer beeped and moments later the requested file came up on the screen. "Play." said Owen who stared at the screen intently. Maybe he could find something which would be useful in the next meeting with that ship.

Lieutenant Owen Murtaugh

Owen had just finished watching the tactical recording of the battle between the U.S.S. Hawk and the Consortium vessel for the fourth time and was preparing to start it again when he heard the doors to the turbo lift slide open. He glanced over to see who was entering the bridge and saw that it was the Captain. He stood up somewhat straighter and nodded in the Captain's direction, "Good afternoon sir." The two men had served together on the Hawk during that ship's last mission and had gotten to know each other somewhat. He had been surprised and honored when Captain Harvath had specifically asked for Owen to be assigned to the Valhalla.

Captain Scot Harvath

Scot looked over and nodded in return then started walking over to the tactical station. As he passed the marine combat information center, the enlisted marine guarding the door snapped to attention and saluted. "Sir." was all he said, rather loudly. Scot jumped slightly, 'I am never going to used to that.' he thought, then looked at the guard, "As you were Private."

"Good afternoon Lieutenant Murtaugh? What do you have going on here?"
he said as he stopped next to Owen and looked down at the console.

Owen reached down and restarted the replay and let it run. "Well sir, I have been studying our run in with that Consortium ship, trying to get a feel for the tactics they used." he pointed at the screen as if to emphasize what he was saying. "I haven't seen anything even loosely resembling standard tactics used by Starfleet, which is surprising since you would expect to see at least some variation on the standard tactics if the ship is crewed, at least in part, by rogue Starfleet personnel. They make absolutely no evasive maneuvers, there are no variations to their attacks, just head on direct passes, very aggressive, almost reckless. The attack was reminiscent of the kind of attacks used by the Jem'Hedar during the war. And if you watch here," Owen pointed to the screen again which was showing a hit on the Consortium vessel by one of the Hawk's phasers. The phaser energy seemed to disperse across the other vessels hull and then dissipate "that was a hit on their hull that resulted in no significant damage, at least none that our sensors could detect. The energy was spread over a wide area, but they weren't using shields. It would appear that they have hull armor similar to our own ablative armor, but more advanced. Their weapons systems are similar to disrupters, but again, more advanced. I have no theory at this point as to why our sensors had such a hard time locking onto them. Obviously a type of masking system that we haven't seen." Owen let the video finish running and waited for Scot to think about what had just been said.

Scot waited for the video to finish and then looked around the bridge while he thought, 'How the hell did they manage to build that thing?' Advanced ablative armor, stealth technology, neither were completely alien concepts, the Valhalla had both systems installed, but the Consortium vessel had ablative armor which apparently far surpassed that used by most Starfleet vessels and a stealth system very much like the Valhalla's own system, which they shouldn't have, especially since the system was still classified and only recently installed on a handful of ships for field testing. 'How far does the Consortium infiltration of Starfleet go?'

"Well, that is more than we had to go on before. Keep at it. See if you can find a way to defeat their sensor mask. Use our system as a base and bring in the science and engineering departments if you have to." seeing the look of confusion on Owens face Scot smiled, "I will make the file available to you since you obviously haven't read over your briefing materials. What is your overall analysis as to their threat to us?"

"Well sir, going off of what information we have, and considering that our weapon systems are being supplemented with pulse phaser cannons and pulse fire torpedo launchers, I would say we are fairly evenly matched, again, going off of what we know. That ship far outclassed the Hawk, but the Valhalla was built with combat in mind. We are matched pretty evenly in speed and we may have an advantage in firepower, but we likely haven't seen all of that ships capabilities. Sorry, at best I see another engagement as a fifty-fifty affair. There are just too many unknowns." Owen said rather bluntly.

"Okay. Well, we have a little time yet to try and swing those odds a bit more in our favor. Keep on top of it. Any ideas are worth at least exploring." Scot looked towards the door to his Ready Room and then glanced at the Marine guard standing nearby. Looking back at Owen he asked quietly, "Will he do that thing again when I walk by?"

Owen grinned upon hearing that question, "Most definitely." seeing the pained expression on Scot's face he chuckled and said, "You can't blame him, proper protocol is drilled into them. At this point, it is probably part of his DNA. Besides, you know you love it."

Scot gave Owen an unamused look then sighed and turned away. As he started towards his Ready Room he saw that the guard was watching him approach. Before the Marine could move, Scot looked at him, nodded in recognition, and said, "As you were Private." As he entered the Ready Room he said loudly, "Lieutenant Murtaugh, you have the Bridge." then disappeared inside.

"Yes sir. I have the Bridge."

Scot emerged from his Ready Room and crossed the Bridge, heading towards the briefing room. As he walked he looked around at the various bridge stations. At the moment the stations were manned by junior bridge officers since the ship was still moored at Starbase Unity. Most them seemed too young, having joined Starfleet after the Dominion War. Scot found himself wondering how they would handle the upcoming mission. 'Well, we will see soon enough.' he thought to himself, 'But hopefully not too soon.'

As he reached the door to the briefing room Scot called over his shoulder, "Lieutenant Murtaugh, you're with me."

"Yes, sir. Right behind you." came the reply from Owen. After handing over control of the Tactical station to another officer, Owen followed the Captain into the briefing room.

Etana stepped out of the turbolift, onto the Bridge, then walked over to the Operations station. After looking over the various system status displays he picked up a PADD and headed to the briefing room door. He paused for a moment and straightened his uniform top, then entered.

Ryn entered the bridge. It was just a hop, skip and a jump from the briefing room, but still. Looking around, she could see the various duty officers at their consoles. Placing her arms behind her back, she walked forward and spoke getting some of their attention, "Anything to report? We are leaving for departure soon. Are all decks ready?"

She walked a few steps from the door into the center of the bridge near her XO chair while looking around. In the back of her mind, she also read from her report that the new chief of ops had yet to report in. She'd have to get in touch with her when she can. They had to leave soon.

Scot stepped through the briefing room door and stepped onto the Bridge. He walked towards the door to the turbo lift and paused before entering. He looked back at Camryn and said, "Commander, you have the Bridge. I will be at the Elysian Fields with our guest." He then stepped into the turbo lift. "Deck five."

Etana stepped out of the Briefing Room just as the Commander Sheppard asked for a status report. He quickly walked the few steps to the Operations Suite and stepped up to the main station. After touching a few controls and scanning through the various displays he said, "Ship systems are online and operating normally. The last of the crew have reported aboard. Most engineering teams from the station have completed their work and departed the ship."

Isla groaned as she hurried through the hallways.  How had she missed her alarm again?  She had set it so she would make it to the bridge in an orderly fashion.  the last thing she needed was to be late on her first day and be transferred yet again.  Yes, she didn't get along with people real well, but that didn't mean she wanted to be transferred to every ship the Starfleet had.  She blew out a breath, her red bangs falling into her eyes.

Isla slowed her pace just before she reached the bridge, taking just a couple of seconds to smooth her hair back into place and make sure her uniform was in order.  Once she was sure she was in tack she stepped onto the bridge, looking for someone in charge.  She soon spotted a woman who should be able to help.  "Ma'am?" she asked, stepping up to Ryn. "I am Isla McAines.  I apologize for being a bit tardy."

Ryn nodded at the captain just as she was about to say something when he left the bridge. She exhaled and turned as Etana spoke. She replied, "Good. Lets-"

She didn't finish her sentence when another officer entered the bridge and reported in. Ryn stared at her and nodded while hiding a migraine that suddenly started creeping across her head, "Alright commander. Take your position in the ops section. We are about to get underway."

Ryn was a pretty straight forward person. She expects people to do the job they are assigned to. No apologies are necessary. Facing the viewscreen, she spoke, "Helm-" Ryn paused thinking back on her reports and remembered that they weren't leaving yet till tomorrow. She exhaled responding, "Never mind. Stand by."

She took her seat at the XO chair and continued to monitor the stations.

Isla nodded.  "Yes ma’am."  The red head turned and moved toward ops.  She really needed to take time and look at her computer.   Maybe even set a couple different alarms to be on the safe side.  She didn’t want to be late again.

Etana looked at Commander McAines as she approached the Operations area, "Commander, welcome aboard. All systems are operating normally." He then stepped aside and moved to the secondary operations station, leaving the primary station open for Commander McAines.

<<Three Minutes Later>>

Marine Captain Torino stepped out of the turbo lift and paused. He glanced at the Marine guarding the entrance to the Marine Combat Information Center and scowled at him. The young man, who had been standing in a more relaxed stance, immediately stood up straighter and placed both hands behind his back. Satisfied, Captain Torino made his way over to Commander Sheppard. Stopping next to her, he looked around the bridge while he said, "We need to coordinate the areas of security responsibility between my Marines and the ship's security personnel." He then stood there, impatiently as he continued to look around the bridge.

Isla nodded.  "Thank you," she smiled at Etana.  At least that part was still going according to plan.   What a way to start on a new ship.  She had been bounced to so many that she was just tired and wanted to at least spend a bit of time on the same ship.  Isla slid into the vacated chair, looking at all the screens to see for herself that everything was normal.
