U.S.S. Valhalla (NCC-18000) Marine CIC-Bridge
« on: October 31, 2016, 10:28:57 AM »

Though not located on the Marine Deck, the CIC is nonetheless a Marine facility.

Additional Information

Location: Deck 1

The CIC is secured at all times and guarded, meaning there is at least one marine on the bridge at all times.

The Marine Commanding officer can monitor and control all aspects of a Marine mission from the CIC and will also use the CIC as a secure conference room should it be deemed necessary.

Access to the CIC is generally limited to the Marine command staff, Marine CIC personnel and the ship's Captain, Executive Officer, Strategic Operations Officer, Chief Tactical Officer and at times the Chief Intelligence Officer.

Owen and Storr entered the Combat Information Center and stepped over to short briefing type table located on one side of the room. After taking their seats the two men sat silently, studying their PADDs. Finally, Storr laid his on the table looked at Owen.

"Lieutenant Murtaugh, I just want to apologize for taking you away from what I can only assume are more important matters. I don't really know why my commanding officer seems to want to make this matter more complicated than it needs to be." he said.

Owen shrugged before saying, "It isn't a big deal honestly. It is actually good that we talk, that way we can make sure we are on the same page, since, if you don't mind my saying so, your CO doesn't really seem to be all that concerned."

"Well, I can't speak to that. I am interested to know how you would recommend we deploy our men during an emergency situation since you are familiar with the ship."

"Well, to begin, obviously your marines would have sole jurisdiction, if you will, over Marine facilities. My security teams will deal with the main security office, the brig and computer core. I think we should share responsibility for securing the main bridge, engineering spaces, transporter rooms, ship's armory, and life support systems. I also recommended that we have mixed teams of security personnel and marines patrolling each deck to guard against boarding actions, but neither your CO or the ships XO seemed too keen on that suggestion."
Owen said as he looked around the CIC.

Storr thought about what Owen had said before responding, "It sounds like a simple strategy, which as far as I am concerned is the best kind. Over complication can cause confusion, especially when dealing with two units who are not familiar with one another. I am inclined to go with whatever recommendations you might have since you know more about the ship and what tactics would work best, we are the newcomers. We have been trained to board and capture hostile vessels and we could defend the ship if the need were to arise, but, in the short term at least we would be at a disadvantage operating on unfamiliar terrain. I hate to admit that my marines aren't as up to speed concerning the layout of the Valhalla as I would like. For many of my men, this will be their first deployment aboard a starship." after pausing and calling up a roster on his PADD Storr continued, "I can assign my second platoon to assist with shipboard security duties along with a portion of my fourth platoon. I would also like to use half of my third platoon as a fast reaction force."

"Well okay, it seems as though we are both on the same page, all we need to do is work out the specifics of deployments. I should also bring you up to speed concerning the different alert levels we use aboard starships and what procedures go along with them." Owen moved closer to Storr and called up a schematic of the Valhalla on the LCARS terminal built into the table. After zooming in on deck 8 he continued, "As you can see by this schematic there are many ways to access main engineering, which is probably the most important place on the ship, after the bridge." After letting Storr study the deck plans Owen pointed at a couple of locations on the schematic and continued, "If we place teams at these locations we should be able to..."

Ryn walked into the dimmed lights of the room. Looking around, she noted a crewmember. Clearing her throat, the XO spoke, "Lieutenant Garlake, do we have communications with the marine deck or with the landing party?"

She inquired as it was important that they have at least a few communications open. Approaching beside him, Ryn mused on a few thoughts herself. A part of her was concerned that communications were down. That meant they were blind to several parts of the ship.

"Private, have First Platoon send a squad to secure engineering and have another move to the bridge. The other squad should start clearing decks, beginning with deck five. Tell them to coordinate with any friendly security teams they come across. Let me know the second any other platoons check in with a ready status. And try to raise the landing party again." When he finished issuing his orders he turned towards Commander Sheppard, "We do not have communication using shipboard systems, however, we are in contact with one of our first platoon which is currently deployed and using our own secure communications channels. We have had intermittent contact with the away team, but there is a lot of interference. There have been indications that the away team was attacked."

Marine CIC

The room shuddered several times as they were being hit. The alarms blared. Ryn listened to Storr and responded, "Attacked? Can you reestablish contact with them? We need to know what's going on. They might need reinforcements."

Ryn knew they needed to get some answers. The away team could use some backup, but Ryn knew that she needed to figure out how to take back her ship first. They were under attacked.

"Ma'am we can't break through the interference for some reason. The jamming coming from the freighter is being compounded by the interference from the nebula." pausing he checked the status display and noted that two more marine squads had reported as ready. Tapping the private manning the console on the shoulder he said, "Have those two squads move to and secure the operations center and computer core on deck seven." turning back to Commander Sheppard he said, "We will keep working on the communications with the away team. As more of the marine squads check in I will dispatch them to counter possible hostile boarding actions."

Marine CIC

"Have you heard from Captain Torino?" Ryn inquired. As she focused on the reports that were streaming in, it was almost time for her to get back to the bridge to make her report. They also haven't heard from Torino and if Comms were down, it didn't look good. She added, "Where was he last heard? Can we send someone to look for him?"

"The last time Captain Torino was heard from he was on his way to the CIC to monitor the away mission to the freighter. He was on the Marine Deck at the time. Nothing has been heard from him since then. There are marine reinforcements en route to the bridge currently. Once they have arrived and secured the bridge we can probably send a couple of men to look for Torino. Storr said as he watched as two more marine squads reported in with ready status.

Ryn nodded. This news was troubling and she felt the need to inform the captain. The commander responded while turning toward the door, "Alright. Secure the vital areas of the ship. We need to make sure no one takes over the ship. Inform me of any sudden developments. I'll go let the captain know."

She turned away and headed across the room toward the door. The section vibrated several times as the attack from the other ship continued. They needed to be stopped so they can get communications up quickly.

"Staff Sergeant de la Rosa to CIC. Engineering entrance, deck eight secured. Hostiles encountered and neutralized. One friendly casualty. The engineering compartment appears to be secured from inside."

Lieutenant Garlake looked up from the status display then reached over and tapped the control panel, opening a channel to engineering. "Attention, this First Lieutenant Garlake, the Marine officer in charge. Marine forces have secured both entrances to the engineering section. Please release the door lock and make no hostile actions. You have one minute to comply."

<1Lt Walker Corwin>

After everything was secured on the Marine deck, Walker had found communications systems were still being restored and decided to head up to CIC and find out who was calling the shots and report in personally. Just in case, he had armed himself with one of the Armory's rifles alongside the phaser he had taken from the murderers.

However, as he found the turbolift took him straight to his destination without trouble, he slung the rifle over his back, figuring that the situation was likely winding down or else the turbolift wouldn't have gone to Deck 1. The mutineers wouldn't risk an attempt to retake the Bridge and CIC so easily, and the Captain would have locked out the turbolifts to keep anyone seizing control of the ship.

Walker entered CIC and looked around before heading straight to Garlake.

"Good to see you, Lieutenant. We're mopping up on Deck 6, looks secure but better safe than sorry," Walker lowered his voice, "I hate to be the one to say this, but a couple of those scumbags got the drop on the skipper. Full power phaser blast. I got there too late, but we have both of them in custody. I'm sorry."

Storr acknowledged 1st Lieutenant Corwin as he entered the CIC. He started to turn towards the command console just as another situation report came in but immediately turned to face Walker, a look of shock and consternation on his face when he heard what the man said.

"The CO too?" he asked no one in particular. Then, after composing himself he continued, "I just got the news that the XO was killed during the away mission. Ambushed by mutineers there as well." After a pause, he looked at Lieutenant Corwin and said, "I believe that makes you the ranking officer since you have time in grade over me. Orders?"

<1Lt Walker Corwin>

Walker closed his eyes, looking down for a moment and shaking his head. Today was indeed a dark day for the Marines on board. He then looked back up, taking a deep breath before opening his eyes.

"We'll make this right. This isn't going unpunished, and I don't mean the cowards who committed the murders, that'll be sorted out with the judges and law. The ones who were behind this whole mess. They'll get theirs, but we'll do it better than them and do it by the book," Walker said quietly, before pondering his next move for a moment, "Alright. First things first, are we secure from the threat or do we still have hostiles on board?"
